Strive to minimize food waste 

We try to prevent food waste at the source (through menu planning, how we cook and the way we serve) and through addressing any leftover waste through food donation and composting.

Here are some of the ways we strive to minimize food waste as part of our commitment to positively impacting the planet:
Preventing waste at the source: We are focused on minimizing food waste from field to plate.
This includes: production planning (menu planning) and how we cook our food. For example:


Production planning and procurement

In 200 cafes globally (and growing) we track and leverage pre-consumer (i.e., kitchen) food waste data, obtained through our partnership with Leanpath, to inform our purchasing and production. We plan for both the number of expected diners and the popularity of particular items to forecast the ideal quantities.

The way we cook the food

Our approach is to cook in small batches. Chefs eyeball crowd sizes and cook in real time as much as possible, instead of pre-cooking large quantities far in advance. Our goal is to ensure that we have enough freshly prepared food while reducing potential waste from excess prepared dishes going uneaten.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Waste reduction

We donate and compost where possible.


Donating unused food wherever possible

Local and regional government entities prescribe what food can be reused or donated to local charities. Wherever possible, untouched edible food goes to local charities in our communities, such as Chefs to End Hunger, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen and Food For Free. In countries where it is possible to donate, your local cafe team can advise where unused food gets donated to.



We compost wherever possible, as allowed by local municipal guidelines.
